Chief Val Demings Slams Marco Rubio’s Vote Against Gun Safety Legislation

ORLANDO — Today, after Marco Rubio voted against bipartisan, life-saving gun legislation, Chief Val Demings released the following statement:

“As a former Chief of Police, I’ve seen the devastating impact that gun violence has on our communities, and as Chief, I was committed to doing something about it and I did. Marco Rubio’s vote is downright disappointing but not surprising. His ‘no’ vote has nothing to do with protecting constitutional rights and everyone who knows him knows that. It’s about $3.3 million dollars in campaign spending by the gun lobby. After the tragic shootings in Uvalde, Buffalo, and so many others, including Parkland and Pulse, right here in Florida, it’s just too hard for him to stand up to the gun lobby and fight to keep Florida’s families safe. I am grateful for the senators who put protecting Americans over playing politics.”
