“I Don’t Know What Holding Oil Companies Accountable Means”: Marco Rubio Refuses to Stand Up to Big Oil

ORLANDO – In an interview aired Sunday, Marco Rubio claimed not to understand “what holding oil companies accountable means,” after being asked to respond to Chief Demings’ proposals to lower gas prices. This comes after Rubio has taken over $1.4 million in donations from the oil & gas industry and fought for billions in tax giveaways for Big Oil.

Meanwhile, Chief Demings has fought relentlessly to lower gas prices, including calling on the Biden administration to tap the strategic reserves in November, and just introduced legislation to crack down on Big Oil price gouging.

“Marco Rubio refuses to hold big oil companies accountable for price gouging Floridians because he does what he’s told by the big money special interest donors that drive his agenda,” said Demings communications director Christian Slater. “Meanwhile, Chief Demings is fighting to lower costs for working Floridians by cracking down on corporate price gouging and fighting to tap the strategic petroleum reserves. Marco Rubio is too weak to stand up to the special interests and fight for lower gas prices.”
